BRAVO to Lynne Ramsey and Bob Vernon for the premiere of the new Concerto for Two Violas by Richard Sortomme with the Cleveland Orchestra and Maestro Christoph von Dohnanyi on Saturday Nov. 21, 2015.  The performance was a spectacular tour de force of this colorful work based on Themes from Smetana’s “From My Life” quartet which featured the viola duo as the dynamic pair they are in real life. Their virtuosic technique, soulful melancholy, tonal resonance and artistry were on display in a performance brimming with color, character and viola wizardry. This dynamic duo performed brilliantly together as soloists and chamber musicians with graceful musicality, finesse and panache. Their endearing friendship as colleagues made for a warm and loving performance in tribute to Vernon’s longest tenure as a principal string in the Cleveland Orchestra.
