“a knockout . . . sound is rich and resonant . . . terrific playing…achingly beautiful.”

Barry Kilpatrick, American Record Guide

“Based in northeast Ohio, Panorámicos is a chamber ensemble that presents works with unusual and constantly varied instrumentation….Reflections is a contemplative album with a number of works for soprano and interesting combinations of instruments.  In Michael Cohen’s ‘From the Wall’, an anonymous Holocaust poem is set for soprano, flute, cello, and piano.  The work comes across as a haunting quartet, with soprano Sandra Simon’s beautiful voice as one of the instruments.  I Remember is a 22-minute work based on Anne Frank’s Diary, it goes without saying that the text is heartbreaking; but the music is by turns brooding, playful, hopeful, and resigned.  Scored for soprano, flute (piccolo and alto flute), cello, and harp, the work has instrumental interludes, spoken words at the text’s most devastating moment, and a peaceful ending. The Ralph Vaughan Williams Vocalises for Soprano and Alto Flute has it’s charms, especially the sound of Robinson’s alto flute.  Griebling-Haigh’s Night Swimming is a seven  minute work which begins calmly and darkly, takes on some ripples in the piano and gradually becomes agitated before returning to calm…This gem of a piece proves again that Margi Griebling-Haigh is a gifted composer whose works deserve wide renown.  Trauermusik for viola and piano sees Violist Ramsey and Pianist Fusco take full advantage of every expressive opportunity…The disc ends with Morricone’s Gabriel’s Oboe arranged for oboe and strings…how much aching beauty can we take?”

“In its second release of 2009, the superb Cleveland chamber ensemble Panoramicos takes up haunting music by Michael Cohen, Ralph Vaughan Williams, Margi Griebling-Haigh, Paul Hindemith and Ennio Morricone. Cohen’s “From the Wall” and “I Remember” are touching evocations of Holocaust texts, sung with endearing purity by soprano Sandra Simon, and Griebling-Haigh’s “Night Swimming” is a score of brooding beauty. Lynne Ramsey and pianist Randall Fusco are eloquent protagonists in Hindemith’s Trauermusik. Grade: A.”
